Early Childhood brings adults together to a profession that is creative, exhausting, and all about creating the future, by being in the moment, with young children.
Professionals in this field enter in many ways: the traditional way (getting educated before you begin); the parental way (getting interested alongside your growing child); the accidental way (discovering that young humans are fascinating and work with them is vital).
Work in early childhood and qualifications required vary widely. For further information "defining the field," see the Teacher Education Partnership Commission.
Students at SCC may choose to take a course or two, earn a certificate of completion CCL (course work only in this area), complete an associate degree AAS (includes general studies) or an ATP (to continue at a 4 year program at a state university). SCC and the Maricopa Colleges continue to work with other institutions to increase academic advancement opportunities for all students.
State funds are available for early childhood professional development for individuals currently employed in early care and education. Forms for the Professional Career Pathway Project include the Tuition Application, Planned Course Work Form, and the Course Completion Form. Contact the program director, Dr. Rosanne Dlugosz for signatures and further information.
