Submitting Assignments

Submitting Assignments in Blackboard

When you submit an assignment in Blackboard, it is submitted electronically using the Assignment Manager. It will appear in the grade book, where your Instructor can access and grade it.

Typically assignments will be located under the Course Materials section of the class (refer to Navigating for more on navigation within the Blackboard classroom); however assignments can be placed in various areas within your course, so check with your Instructor to find out where assignments are located.

Assignments can be identified in two ways:

  1. Look for the Assignment Manager icon:

  2. Look for the link to upload the assignment:

Important Note: You can only submit an assignment once, unless your instructor deletes the attempt and allows you to resubmit. No tracking will be kept of the original assignment submission.

  • Step 1: Locate the assignment you wish to complete. Read through the instructions. At the bottom of the assignment instructions, you will see a View/Complete link (See image below). Click on the link to view the instructions for the assignment.

  • Step 2: Check to see if the Instructor has attached any files for you to use in completing your assignment. If so, download them. Complete the assignment and save it on your hard drive, a CD-R, or a diskette.
  • Step 3: When you have completed the assignment, go to the assignment again and click on the View/Complete link. Enter comments into the comments field (See the image below). Comments are a nice way to attach a "message" regarding your homework to the instructor if you wish to add them.

  • Step 4: Click on the Browse button to search for your file(s) related to the assignment (see image above). You will search the computer you are working on for the files you need to submit.
  • Step 5: Make sure that your document(s) are in a file format that is acceptable to your instructor. If you use an older version of Word or another word processing program, you may need to convert your file to a different format to ensure that your instructor can view it.
