Today's multi-billion dollar horse industry is diverse, sophisticated and high tech, requiring individuals who are knowledgeable and skilled to work in this multi-faceted field. Scottsdale Community College has developed a personalized and practical approach to equine career planning. The objectives of the program are threefold:
- to provide students with basic skills necessary to compete for jobs in the horse industry
- to provide the community with horse oriented continuing education courses
- to offer a curriculum that articulates with four year Equine Science programs at major colleges and universities
OPTIONS AVAILABLE:
- Associate of Applied Science Degree in EQUINE SCIENCE
- Certificate of Completion in EQUINE SCIENCE
- Individual classes for non-traditional community participants
- Pass/Fail option also available for community horse enthusiasts
The two year associate degree program is based on a broad technical study of all phases of equine business and management practices coupled with general studies necessary to become a well rounded individual. Upon completion of this program, students elect to work in the hourse industry or earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Science from a four year college or university.
A Certificate of Completion in Equine Science is also available. This includes all equine coures but does not require general education courses.
The Equine Science Program is structured to allow students to specialize in the area of the horse industry in which they are the most interested. Through a variety of elective courses and specialized internship opportunities, students are encouraged to help design a course of study that best meets their individual needs.

Adjunct Faculty Members In addition to the director, the Equine Science Department enjoys the expertise of 8 - 10 adjunct faculty who specialize in various segments of the horse industry.
FACILITIES
Main Campus
New classroom facilities are located on the main campus to accommodate lecture/discussion format and related classroom activities. On campus activities are supported by a full roster of student support services, high tech computer labs and other diverse curricula which contribute to a well rounded education.
Off-Campus Teaching Unit
The Scottsdale/Phoenix area is home to numerous specialized equine ranches, equine medical and surgical facilities and world class equestrian show facilities. A variety of these locations serve as off campus teaching sites and are utilized for class activities and internship opportunities. |
