Scientific Name: Callisaurus draconoides  Temporal Activity: Diurnal. Activity shifts from mid-day to mornings and late afternoons as temperatures increase. Diet: Feeds primarily on a variety of insects and spiders, but will also consume small lizards and plant material. Predators: Preyed upon by hawks, owls, coyotes, ringtails, and skunks. Breeding: Breeding occurs in spring and summer; one or more clutches of one to fifteen eggs are laid, after 60 to 75 days eggs hatch Vegetation Association: Prefers open sandy soils with minimum plant growth such as flatlands and washes. Notes: When threatened this lizard will wag its tail back and forth which like many lizard species can detach and regenerate if it is attacked. Photo: Taken at Coon Bluff April 3, 2007.
