Family:  Sphingidae
Diet:  Caterpillars eat willow weed, four o?clock, evening primrose, and purslane.
Vegetation Association:  Willow weed, four o?clock, evening primrose, and purslane.
Predators: 
Life Stages:  Complete metamorphosis; egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
Notes:  During summer monsoons larvae (black-striped hornworms) can be found moving across the desert floor in large groups.  This is a nocturnal butterfly which usually feeds on white flowers at night.  Also called hummingbird moths because they hover like hummingbirds.  Caterpillars are fond of fuscia.
