Scientific Name: Orthemis ferruginea Order: Odonata Family: Aeshnidae Diet: Eats insects that are only slightly smaller in size than it. Vegetation Association: Found near freshwater bodies of water or canals. Naiads are found in the bottoms of shallow streams. Predators: Birds Life stages: Incomplete metamorphosis; egg, nymph, adult. Notes: The male has a rose-pink and red-maroon colored abdomen. It forages at the top of tall vegetation; this is an aggressive predator.
