Ring-necked Duck

Scientific Name: Aythya collarisrnduckWP010207

Residency: Winters in central and Southern Arizona.

Diet: Eats insects and mollusks as well as tubers, leaves and seeds of aquatic vegetation.

Predators:  Northern Harrier, Great Horned Owl, Bald Eagle, and Peregrine Falcon prey upon adults.  Egg predators are Crows, ravens, domestic dog, skunk, Great-Horned owl, pike, and bass.  Common snapping turtle prey on young.

Nesting: Made of grass and mosses, lined with down and placed near water. Eggs: 6-14 per clutch, olive-buff, 1 brood per year.

Notes: Found in small single-sex flocks during fall migration.
