Scientific Name: Dorosoma petenense
Residency: Non-native to Arizona. Ranges throughout parts of North and Central America.
Habitat: Occurs primarily in freshwaters in lakes, large rivers, swamps, and reservoirs. Saline water such as estuaries and bays can be tolerated.
Diet: Filter feeds on items such as phytoplankton, diatoms, fish fry, and zooplankton.
Breeding: Breeding occurs in spring then again in autumn. 5,000 to 20,000 eggs are laid near vegetation.
Status: Not threatened.
