Scientific Name: Gambusia affinis
Residency: Non-native in Arizona. Mosquito fish have been introduced on every continent other than Antarctica for mosquito control and have one of the largest distributions of any fish.
Habitat: Mosquito fish are usually found in vegetated ponds and lakes and in slower moving or standing backwater and pools along streams.
Diet: Small insects such as mosquito larvae, zooplankton, and detritus.
Breeding: Mosquito fish are viviparous; a female can produce three or four broods in a single season with brood sizes numbering up to 100 fish.
Status: Considered a threat to native species in some areas where they are introduced.
