Scientific Name: Apis mellifera Order: Hymenoptera Family: Apidae Diet: Feeds on pollen, nectar, and oils from flowering plants. Vegetation Association: Pollinates saguaro. Predators: Many species of mammals, insects, birds, lizards, spiders and other arachnids. Life Stages: Complete metamorphosis: egg, larvae, pupae, adult. Notes: This is an introduced species in Arizona. Has a barbed stinger that cannot be withdrawn, but detaches itself from the bees? body; the bee later dies.
