Residency:  Spends winters throughout state.
Diet:  Eats seeds and vegetative parts of aquatic plants.
Predators:  Peregrine Falcon, Northern Harrier and Coyote.
Nesting:   Made of plant material and down and well hidden under plant cover.  Nest colonially on island. Eggs are 7-13 per clutch, white, 1 brood per year.

Notes:  When being attacked will “feign death” or try to submerge in water.
