Podiceps nigricollis
Residency:  Winters in Southern half of state and summers in North.
Diet:  Eats small fish, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic insects and eggs of leaches.
Predators:  Nest predation by American Coots.  Adult predators are Herring Gull, Great-horned Owl and Coyotes.
Nesting:  Nest is a floating platform of fresh and decayed vegetation and is attached to surrounding vegetation.  Eggs 3-9 per clutch, dull bluish white, 1 brood per year.
Nesting Records:
Notes:  Migrates only at night and is flightless for 9-10 months of the year.
