Vegetation Association: Nests can be found in clay or sand. Each nest contains tunnels which are broken into cells for the eggs. Predators: Velvet ants prey upon larva by entering their burrows and laying eggs on the pupae. Life Stages: Larvae develop in cells with waterproof linings. Adults place honey and pollen into each cell for the larva to eat. Adults show up in late spring.
