Scientific Name: Sauromalus ater
Temporal Activity: Diurnal
Diet: Herbivorous, these lizards primarily feed on annuals but also consume perennials; they will also occasionally eat insects.
Predators: Snakes, coyotes, foxes, hawks, owls, and other small predators.
Breeding: Up to six eggs are laid during summer.
Vegetation Association: Sonoran and Mojave desert scrub, lives among boulders rock piles and outcroppings.
Notes: When startled chuckwallas will dive into a rock crevice and inflate their bodies.
