Scientific Name: Bucephala albeola
Residency: Winters throughout the state of Arizona.
Diet: Eats insects, mollusks, crustaceans, and some seeds.
Predators: Peregrine Falcon, Bald Eagle, Great-horned Owl, Cooper’s Hawk, and Barrow’s Goldeneye. Eggs are destroyed by squirrels, European Starling, and Northern Flicker.
Nesting: Nest in tree cavity or nest box, lined with downy feathers from males’ chest. Eggs: 6-11 per clutch, ivory to buff in color, one brood per year.

Notes: Courtship begins in January and has a high level of aggression. They winter in small flocks.
