Bobcat

Scientific Name:  Felis rufusBobcat, Brown's Ranch

Temporal Activity:  Mainly nocturnal.

Diet:  Preys upon jack rabbits, cottontails, birds, snakes, rodents and rarely deer.  The bobcat hunts everyday because it preys upon small animals.  It hunts by ambush pouncing and biting the neck of its prey.

Predators:  Mountain lions.

Breeding:  Bobcats only come together to mate, which takes place in early in spring.  Two months later the female bobcat gives birth to 2-3 kittens in a cave, hollowed out tree stump, or rock shelter.  The kittens will stay with their mother until the fall while they learn how to hunt.

Notes:  This cat is solitary that even avoids other bobcats. Bobcats hunt on the ground and will climb trees to get away from predators.  Their range is a few square miles.  Bobcats weigh 15-22 pounds.
