Blue-winged Teal

Scientific Name: Anas discors

Residency:  Summers spent in north-eastern corner of Arizona

Diet: Eats seeds and vegetative parts of aquatic plants.

Predators: Peregrine Falcons, Great-horned Owls, Red-tailed Hawks, Northern Harriers and Bald Eagles.  Black-billed Magpies regularly take eggs.

Nesting: In grassy cover near water, made of grasses, lined with down. Eggs: 6-15 per clutch, dull white. One brood per year.

Notes: When in flight, light blue patches can be seen on forewing.
