Belted Kingfisher

Scientific Name: Ceryle alcyonbeltedkingfisherCB111007

Residency: Throughout Arizona during winter.

Diet: Eats fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects.

Predators: Raptors, Cooper?s Hawk, and Northern Harrier.

Nesting: A tunnel in a vertical bank, can be 3-15 ft. in length. The female lays 5-7 white eggs per clutch (one brood per year).

Nesting Records:

Notes: Tunnel excavation is done with the bill, will alternating kicking dirt out or excavating; can dig about a foot a day.
