Scientific Name: Chilomeniscus cinctus Temporal Activity: Nocturnal. Diet: Eats centipedes, sand-burrowing cockroaches, and other soft bodied insects. Predators: Preyed upon by hawks, owls, coyotes, and ringtails. Breeding: Little known information; lays small clutches of eggs. Vegetation Association: Banded Sand Snakes are found in Sonoran Desert Scrub with creosote bush, palo verde and saguaro plants. Notes: This is a fairly uncommon species. This species has adapted to swimming and breathing in loose sand. They have small eyes, narrow heads, and smooth scales.
