Scientific Name: Anas americana
Residency: Winters in southwestern corner of Arizona.
Diet: Eats aquatic plants and insects.
Predators: Common predators on the young and adults: California Gull, Northern Harrier, red fox, and badger. Common egg predators: California Gull, American Crow, striped skunk, Franklin?s ground squirrel, red fox, and short-tailed weasel.
Nesting: The nest is placed far from water, beneath trees or concealed in shrubs. Lays 6-12 white eggs per clutch (one brood per year).

Notes: This species associates in small flocks. During courtships, males will give whistling calls and lift their wings almost vertically above their backs.
