Scientific Name: Botaurus lentiginosus
Residency: In summertime, resides throughout most of Arizona except for the southeastern corner.
Diet: Eats fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and small mammals.
Predators: No known information.
Nesting: Platform nest with cattails, sticks, and grasses. The nest is placed in marsh vegetation inches above water. Eggs: 2-7 per clutch, buffy olive-brown. One brood per year.

Notes: Can camouflage itself by putting its beak straight up in the air and blending into the surrounding vegetation.
