Australia
Australia is a huge island continent located between the Pacific and Indian oceans, just south of Indonesia.  The vast majority of the interior is rocky and desolate, with few inhabitants apart from remote aboriginal communities and a few scattered sheep and cattle stations.  West of the Great Dividing Range that curves along the east coast of Australia is the outback, a desert of red earth and vivid blue skies.  With its gorges and rocky plateaus, the outback is home not only to bizarre geological rock formations, but also to unique wildlife, ancient fossils, and aboriginal rock carvings that record the existence of the oldest human culture.  Located in the southeastern part of the country, New South Wales and Victoria are two of the six states and two territories in Australia.  Opposite from the United States, May is considered the end of the fall season in Australia.  The average temperatures for May are 60-65°F and students will find this a nice break from Arizona's 110°F weather.

Past students will agree that Australia is home to people of many cultures, and these cultural influences infuse the life of the cities.  English and Asian influences are particularly strong, and their interaction with the values and cultures of the aboriginal inhabitants give Australia its unique personality.

Get to know some of Australia and its aboriginal communities by taking advantage of this wonderful education abroad program!
