February 2, 2008 Women?s Basketball

Scottsdale Traveled to South Mountain: 

 

On Saturday the Lady Artichokes traveled to South Mountain to try and extend their three game winning streak.  Della Rhodes led all scorers with 15 points. The Artichokes continued to play as a team, with 9 different players putting points on the board.  Kati Clark continued her consistency on the boards leading the team with 11 rebounds.  In another close game the Lady Artichokes edged out the Cougars of South Mountain 68-70.  On Wednesday night they will look to make it a season high 5 game winning streak when they host Yavapai College at 5:30.

 

January 30, 2008 Women?s Basketball

Scottsdale Hosted The Lady Apaches of Cochise: 

 

Wednesday night the Lady Artichokes looked to continue there winning streak when they faced Cochise at home.  Both teams on Wednesday night were hungry for a victory.  After the first half the Lady Apaches were leading the Artichokes by one point.  Coming out in the second half the Artichokes were determined to stay with Cochise.  Thanks to Chantel Romans lighting it up from deep going 6 for 10 from 3-point land they were able to make it a game. With a great overall game Della Rhodes scored 16 points, crashed the boards for 9 rebounds, and passed the ball efficiently for 8 assists.  The Artichokes were determined with the game tied after the 2nd half with a score 66-66 to give the home crowd a win in overtime.  Wrapping up overtime was Stacy Wait hitting a game clinching 3-point shot to edge out the Lady Apaches making the final score 74-75. Saturday the Lady Artichokes with travel to South Mountain to see if they can keep there winning streak alive.

 

January 26, 2008 Women?s Basketball

Scottsdale Hosted Conference Rival Mesa College:

 

Saturday night the Lady Artichokes looked to continue there winning efforts when they faced the Lady T-Birds of Mesa. Putting together another impressive outing was Kati Clark.  Kati lead all scorers with 15 points as well as crashing the boards for a team high 13 rebounds. Shayla Washington and Della Rhodes also put up great numbers scoring 12 points each. Della Rhodes not only scored but distributed the ball to her team mates effectively giving her a team high of 7 assists.  In an outstanding team performance the Lady Artichokes defeated the T-Birds of Mesa 61-75.  With the team on a roll they will look to keep up their winning streak when they host Cochise on Wednesday night at 5:30.

 

January 23, 2008 Women?s Basketball

Scottsdale Traveled to Conference Rival Phoenix College:

 

Wednesday night the Lady Artichokes were face with a tough battle against Phoenix College. Leading the Artichokes on the score board were Shayla Washington and Kati Clark, both scoring an outstanding 18 points to lead the team. Stacy Waite and Della Rhodes also put up big numbers, both scoring in double figures with 10 points.  Scottsdale?s Women?s Basketball Team continues there winning efforts defeating Phoenix 67-78. In there next game at home they will try and continue there wining streak when they face the Lady T-Birds from Mesa on Saturday at 5:30.

On Wednesday Night the Lady Artichokes were faced with a tough conference match up.  In a hard fought game Shayla Washington lead the artichokes with 15 points.  Stacy Waite also had a good performance with 8 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals.  The Lady Artichokes came up short on Wednesday night, but hope to get back on track when they face Pima Community College on Saturday night at home.

Scottsdale Hosted Conference Rival Glendale Community College:

 

Saturday night the Lady Artichokes came ready to play.  From the tip off to end they were playing as a team that was determined to win. Saturday night was Savannah Yonnie?s night to shine.  Savannah was the leading scorer with 23 points including going 7 for 12 behind the arc. Shooting a great field goal percentage was Shayla Washington hitting 8 out of her 10 shots attempted, to give her 16 points.  Assisting the scorers was Della Rhodes with 10 assists on the night.  The Lady Artichokes will try and continue their impressive performance when they go up against Central Arizona this Wednesday at 5:30pm in Coolidge.

 

 

January 9, 2008

Scottsdale Hosted Conference Rival Chandler-Gilbert

 

Wednesday night the Fight Lady Artichokes went head to head with the Laday Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert.  In an outstanding performance Kati Clark did it all. Kati scored 11 points, crashed the boards for 16 rebounds, while forcing 5 turnovers.  The leading scorer for the Artichokes was Shayla Washington with 22 points. The Women of Scottsdale fought hard all game, but in a nail biter came up short with a final score of 80-77. In there next game the Women of Scottsdale will be faced with another conference game against the Women of Glendale Community college on Saturday 5:30pm.

 

January 5, 2008

Scottsdale Hosted Midland Junior College:

 

On Saturday the Lady Artichokes took on the Lady Chaps of Midland.  Shayla Washington led all scorers with 14 points. Shayla also provided the team with 16 rebounds. Another notable player was Chantel Romans scoring 12 points.  In a low scoring game the Scottsdale Women came up short getting defeated 68-52.  On Wednesday at 5:30 the Artichokes will meet the Women of Chandler-Gilbert in a conference math up.

 

January 3, 2008

Scottsdale Hosted South Plains:

 

In there first game of the 2008 the Lady Artichokes hosted the Lady Texans of South Plains.  Kati Clark was a key contributor in all areas. Kati Clark scored 12 points and crashed the boards for 7 rebounds.  Leading all scorers was Della Rhodes with 16 points.  In a hard fought battle the Women of Scottsdale came up a little short 75-66.  In there next game the Artichokes hope to bounce back with a victory, when they face the Women Midland Junior College on Saturday January 5 at 6 pm.

 

December 29, 2007

Scottsdale Hosted Miracoast Community College:

 

On Saturday night the Lady Artichokes were successful in defeating the Spartans of Miracosta 52-67.  In 22 minutes of playing time Chantel Romans lead all scorers with 16 points.  Stacy Wait was also a key contributor hitting 3 field goals from beyond the ark to help her score 14 points. Della Rhodes had eyes for the open player, leading the team with 7 assists.  The Scottsdale Women?s basketball team hopes to continue there winning streak against South Plain Junior College on January 3, when they host them Thursday night at 7:00pm

 

December 28, 2007

Scottsdale Hosted the Women of Madison Area Community College:

 

The Women?s Basketball team came ready to play Friday night defeating the Wolfpack of Madison Area 62-77.  In an outstanding game all around there were 4 Women that scored in double figures.  To lead all scorers was Ajona Chandler with 15 points.  Chantel Romans played a key role in the victory with 10 assists. Another notable player was Kati Clark with 13 rebounds. This was one of the most impressive overall team performances of the year.

 

December 27, 2007

Scottsdale Hosted the Salt Lake Bruins:

 

On Thursday the Lady Artichokes held off the Bruins of Salt Lake in close game 66-68.  Leading all scorers was Savannah Yonnie with 21 points. Savannah hit 5 field goals from beyond the ark. Kati Clark provided a boost to the team by crashing the boards for 9 rebounds as well as scoring 10 points.  Della Rhodes also scored 10 points.  The Women?s Basketball team fought hard the 40 minutes to edge out the Ladies of Hutchinson.

 

December 20, 2007

Scottsdale hosted Hutchinson:

 

Thursday night the fighting lady artichokes took on the Women of Hutchinson. Savannah Yonnie put together a very impressive night.  Savannah was the leading scorer with 23 points. Other notable players were Shayla Washington scoring 12 points and Della Rhodes scoring 11 points.  . The Scottsdale Women?s basketball team fought hard for 40 minutes but unfortunately came up short losing 62-77.

 

December 12, 2007 

Scottsdale hosted Eastern Arizona:

 

Wednesday night the fighting lady artichokes took on the Delta Monsters of Eastern Arizona Community College. Two freshman standouts scoring in double figures were Shayla Washington and Lauren Battle. Shayla Washington went 7 for 15 on the floor along with one 3 point field goal, leading to her team?s high 17 points. Lauren Battle also played an outstanding game hitting 5 shots form the floor for her 10 points. The Scottsdale Women?s basketball team fought hard for 40 minutes but unfortunately came up short with a heart breaking loss 62-59. In there next game the Artichokes face Arizona Western at there place on Saturday 12-15 at 5:30.

 

December 15, 2007

Scottsdale Women?s Basketball Team traveled to Yuma to play Arizona Western.

 

Saturday the Lady artichokes took on the Women of Arizona Western. Four different players for the Artichokes scored in double figures.  Leading all scorers was Shayla Washington with 13 points.  Along with Shayla 3 other players reached double figures (Savannah Yonnie, Della Rhodes, Lauren Battle). The Scottsdale Women?s basketball team fought hard for 40 minutes but unfortunately came up short with a final score of 94-63.

 

December 5, 2007 

Scottsdale Hosted South Mountain:

 

Wednesday night the fighting lady artichokes took on the Cougars of South Mountain Community College.  In an outstanding performance five Scottsdale players posted scores in the double figures.  Kati Clark went a perfect 5/5 from the field along with 1/1 from beyond the ark giving her a tie for the leading scorer with 13 points. Della Rhodes also with 13 points went 6/10 from the field. Other notables scoring in double figures were Chantel Romans, Shayla Washington, and Savannahh Yonnie. The Scottsdale Women?s basketball team came off the floor feeling very good about their convincing victory 81-49.

 

November 27, 2007:: Women?s Basketball

SCC WOMEN?S BASKETBALL OPEN WITH VICTORY:

 

The Scottsdale Community College Women?s Basketball team took on Luke Air Force Base last week in Glendale. The lady Artichokes came out with an overtime victory, 84 to 73, against the Air Force Base. Chantel Romans led the team with 16 points scored, Shayla Washington with 15 points and AJ Chandler with 10 points. The lady Artichokes lost 83-64 against John Logan Community College in the beginning of the month, but SCC athletes shined bright. Kati Clark scored 11 of the 64 points and Shayla Washington led the team with a stunning 23 points scored.

 

November 27, 2007:: Women?s Cross Country

WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM COMPETES AT NATIONALS: On October 26th, the Women?s Cross Country team, coached by Josh Trask, competed in the Region I Championship. With a 5th place finish, the lady Artichokes qualified for Nationals. The ladies represented Scottsdale Community College with a finish of 33rd in the Nation. Six athletes on the Cross Country team ran their best time of the year, and the team time of 1:51:14 was the Artichokes best combined time of the year. This is the second time in ten years that the lady Artichokes have competed in Nationals.

 

October 26, 2007:: Women?s Soccer

SCC WOMEN?S SOCCER PLAYERS ALL-ACCAC AND HONORABLE MENTION: With the end of the Women?s Soccer season, comes many outstanding player recognitions. Ali Roth, sophomore defender for the Artichokes, was one of eleven women soccer players awarded 2007 All ACCAC- Region 1 Women?s Soccer. Freshman forward, Sara Valasakos was one of seven women soccer players recognized with Honorable Mention All-ACCAC. Wrapping up the last 7 games of the season, Valasakos led the team this month with 3 goals, Roth with 1 goal, Sara Squieri with 1 goal and Casandra Smith with 1 goal.  Amanda Hartrick had another phenomenal season, holding onto ACCAC goal keeper ranking nearly every week of the season. Great season Ladies! And good luck to our graduating sophomores!

SCC HAYLEE THOMPSON NJCAA VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK!: For the week of October 17, 2007, freshman outside hitter, Haylee Thompson was awarded NJCAA Division II volleyball co-hitter of the week. In the 9 most recent games, Thompson averaged 5.7 kills, 2.6 digs, 0.6 blocks and 0.6 aces. More |

 

October 23, 2007:: Volleyball

SCC VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS ACCAC RECOGNIZED AGAIN!: Freshmen, Haylee Thompson and Amy Asta, along with Sophomores, Hanna DeWitt and Jessica Taylor, are once again ACCAC recognized this week. Amy Asta holds her ranking on the chart with a season total of 427 digs and Jessica Taylor with an impressive season total of 425 digs. Hanna DeWitt is currently ACCAC ranked with a season total of 122 blocks and Haylee Thompson is consistent with 3 appearances on the ranking this week, 394 kills, 361 digs and 48 aces. Although the lady Artichokes faced 2 very close losses last week, South Mountain and Eastern Arizona, our ladies resiliently bounced back to defeat Chandler-Gilbert and Mesa, both 3-1. Both DeWitt?s led the team to defeat Mesa, Chelsi with 3 aces and 47 assists, and Hanna with 6 blocks and 21 kills.

 

October 8, 2007:: Volleyball

SCC VOLLEYBALL WITH NUMEROUS ACCAC RANKED PLAYERS: The lady Artichokes? performance this past week has led to the recognition of 4 SCC players by the ACCAC. Hanna DeWitt was ranked with 91 blocks, 1.20 per game, Jessica Taylor with 334 digs, 4.39 per game, and Amy Asta with 327 digs, 4.30 per game.  Haylee Thompson appears 3 times in the ranking this week with 307kills, 4.04 per game, 308 digs, 4.05 per game, and 41 aces, .54 per game. The lady chokes lost the match against Phoenix College 3-2, but return home this Wednesday the 10th at 7pm to play Chandler-Gilbert Community College. | Schedule |

 

October 4, 2007:: Volleyball

SCC VOLLEYBALL 4 MATCH HOMESTEAD:  After a 1-3 game loss to Arizona Western College last Wednesday, September 26th, the lady Artichokes came back with a 3 match sweep. Haylee Thompson had her 8th double-double conference match with 20 kills and 18 digs during the match against Arizona Western, and Jessica Taylor set a team record for the season with 31 digs in the match against Glendale Community College Friday the 28th. The ladies defeated Glendale Community College with a 3-2 victory, and repeated their actions Monday, October 1st, with a 3-2 victory over South Mountain Community College. The ladies proceeded with their winning streak, defeating Yavapai College with a 3-0 shut out on Wednesday, October 3rd. | Schedule |

 

September 25th, 2007:: Women?s Cross Country

SCC WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLACE 3RD: At the Mesa Thunderbird Cross Country Classic on September 21st, SCC Women?s Cross Country placed 3rd overall with 74 points. With a combined team time of 1:58:53.40, the ladies broke the previous SCC team time of 2:04:40.61. The top 5 SCC ladies all set Personal records and are as follows: Amanda Holley 10th- 20:57, Sabrina Nelson 11th- 21:06, Jenny Gerena 28th- 24:39, Kim Gunning 30th- 24:59, Casandra Ottinger 34th, 27:43. | Schedule |

SCC WOMEN?S SOCCER CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE: This past Saturday, the 22nd of September, the women?s soccer team traveled to Chandler-Gilbert Community College to suffer devastating 0-6 defeat Despite the loss, sophomore Goalkeeper Amanda Hartrick continues to hold on to ACCAC rank. This week she appeared 5th on the ACCAC Women?s Leading Goalkeepers with 510 minutes of play and 1.59 GAA . | Schedule |

 

September 24, 2007:: Volleyball

SCC VOLLEYBALL OUTSTANDING VICTORIES FOR THE LADY ARTICHOKES This past Wednesday, the 19th of September, the women?s volleyball team defeated the Mesa Thunderbirds 3-1 here at SCC. Haylee Thompson had a double-double with 24 kills and 19 digs. Right behind her, Whitney Julander had 11 kills on 30 attempts with no errors. Chelsi DeWitt ended the day with 39 assists. While in Tucson this past Friday, the 21st, the SCC ladies came out with another 3-1 victory over Pima. Hanna DeWitt led the team with 18 kills on 36 attempts and Haylee Thompson played another stellar match with 15 kills and 18 digs. Amy Asta also led the team with 4 service aces. | Schedule |

 

September 21, 2007:: Women?s Soccer

SCC WOMEN?S SOCCER DOUBLE OVERTIME ENDS IN AN OTHER TIE: The 2007 Women?s Soccer team settled with an other tie on Wednesday the 19th of September. After double overtime and a grueling afternoon sun, the lady chokes ended the game with a 1-1 tie against Cochise College., Amanda Hartrick, our Sophomore Goalkeeper, gave another stellar performance with 12 breath-holding saves. Freshmen midfielder, Casandra Smith, started the second half of the game off with her first goal of the season. The score was soon after tied up with a controversial penalty kick in favor of Cochise. Each overtime was played much like the first two periods, SCC showing defensive ability while quietly absorbing uncalled fouls from Cochise. This weekend the lady chokes are in Chandler taking on the Chandler-Gilbert (2-4) Coyotes.

September 20, 2007:: VolleyballHaylee_Thompson

HAYLEE THOMPSON ACCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Scottsdale freshman, Haylee Thompson, has been awarded with the ACCAC Division II Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending September 16th 2007. Playing in all six games this past week, Haylee Thompson averaged 4.87 kills and 3.8 digs per game. She also stood out with her .318 hitting percentage.

September 20, 2007:: Women?s Cross Country

WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY OFF TO A RUNNING START!: The Women?s Cross Country team of 2007 has continued progressing and in return has earned wonderful results. Under the direction of Coach Josh Trask the lady Artichokes placed 5th overall and 3rd against other junior colleges in the George Kyte Classic at Northern Arizona University. They completed the meet with the 3rd fastest combined time in over 10 years. On September 14th at the Dave Murray Invitational, our ladies placed 8th overall and 4th against other junior colleges. With a combined team time of 1:38:29.31, our ladies finished with the fastest team time in over 10 years. | More |

SCOTTSDALE VOLLEYBALL COACH STILL HOLD RECORDS AT ASU: Our own head volleyball coach of 13 seasons, Regina Mannix, still owns the ASU All-Time Assists Record of 5,180, nearly 1,000 more than 2nd place record of 4,296 assists. While on the ASU volleyball team from 1984 to1987, Coach Mannix also earned the All-Time Ace Record of 178 and was named All-American in 1986. | Click and Scroll For More |
