Scottsdale Captures Region Title

The SCC volleyball team showed great resilience and perseverance in winning the NJCAA Region I Championship on Saturday and advancing to the NJCAA National Championship tournament.

Playing to a full gym against a confident Chandler-Gilbert squad, the Artichokes dropped the first three games of the Championship match by scores of 27-30, 30-32, and 15-30. With the victory, Chandler-Gilbert forced a second Championship match as the loss was the first for SCC in the double-elimination tourney.

Scottsdale took to the locker room to regroup and formulate a strategy for the deciding match. SCC returned to the court confident, taking the first two games 31-29 and 30-22. Chandler-Gilbert would not go away without a battle and fought back to win the third and fourth games 33-31 and 30-19. In the fifth and deciding game, Scottsdale proved why it was the top ACCAC team in 2005 with a decisive 15-8 victory.

Scottsdale now advances to compete in the NJCAA National Volleyball Championships which will be hosted here at SCC from November 17th -19th.
