OWN GOAL SPOILS GAME FOR ARTICHOKES

The SCC men's soccer team fell to another heart breaking loss on Saturday night as an own goal gave Arizona Western a 1-0 victory over he Artichokes.  The match proved the improvement of the SCC squad as Arizona Western had defeated the 'Chakes 5-1 earlier in the season.

Scottsdale dominated possession for over 70% of the match and out played the visiting Arizona Western squad.  Unfortunately for Scottsdale, the failure all season continued as it failed to convert on its opporthuities.

The own goal came in the 36th minute when Ryan Coonrad attempted to clear a through ball, but knocked it past his keeper into the empty net.

Scottsdale continued to battle tough and came out strong in the second half.  The Artichokes did everything on the field in the second 45 minutes but score.  SCC hit the post once and had five attempts on goal saved by the impressive Arizona Western keeper.

"We find ourselves in the same position again," said Head Coach Adam Berry. "We completely
outplayed them but unfortunately didn't get the result we deserve. It sometimes happens in this game. The best team doesn't always win, but I am so pleased with how the boys are playing. To out play both Yavapai and Arizona Western, who may well meet in the NJCAA Region I final, is a massive accomplishment.  I am very proud of my players and they know that."
