SCC TIES FOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP HONORS AT GATEWAY INVITE -- Scottsdale and Mesa fired identical 36-hole totals of 568 to tie for team title honors at the GateWay Invitational.  SCC's J.D. Guiney fired a 136 (69-67) to capture medalist honors.

SCOTTSDALE HOST, WINS EVENT AT HILLCREST -- The Artichokes tied Chandler-Gilbert with a 36-hole 578 to tie for team championship honors at the SCC Invitational at Hillcrest.  The 'Chokes were tied for third with a 297 in the opening round but fired a tournament best 281 over the second 18 holes to tie for the top spot.  Rich Saferain (74-69--143) and J.D. Guiney (75-68--143) tied for second to lead Scottsdale.  Chandler-Gilbert's Brandon Kaiser fired a 140 (72-68) to take home medalist honors.

ARTICHOKES SECOND AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN EVENT -- Scottsdale led by six strokes after the opening round but could not hold on as Mesa outdueled the Artichokes for a seven stroke victory.  SCC shot a 282 in the opening 18 holes but fell to a 301 on day two while Mesa fired consecutive 288s.  Rich Saferain placed third overall to lead Scottsdale with a 142 (68-74).

SCC SECOND AT PARADISE VALLEY -- Led by JD Guinney and Kyle Kallan, the Artichokes placed second at the Paradise Valley Tournament.  Guinney (76-72) and Kallan (76-72) each shot a 36-hole 148 to tie for third in the event.  As a team, Scottsdale recorded a 306-293--599 to finish five strokes behind South Mountain.  The Artichokes were the top Division I team in the field, topping Pima's 617 and Eastern Arizona's 656..

SCOTTSDALE WINS PIMA INVITATIONAL -- The Artichokes fired an impressive 9-under par 567 to capture the title in the Pima CC Invitational.  SCC defeated second place South Mountain by 13 strokes.  Freshman JD Guinney and sophomore Mike Graham paced Scottsdale with a 36-hole total of 141.

* SCC INDIVIDUAL SCORES: JD Guinney (141), Mike Graham (141), Ross Bell (144), Rich Saferain (144), Kyle Kalan (145), Ben Lange (159).

SCC SECOND AT WNMU CACTUS THAW -- Scottsdale opened the 2008 season with a second place finish at the WNMU Cactus Thaw.  The Artichokes, which followed an opening round 302 with a 291 on day two, were led by Ben Lange's third place finish with 144 (72-72).  WNMU Results |

SCC Men's Golf Coach Shelby FutchFUTCH TO COACH SCC MEN'S GOLF TEAM -- To say that SCC Athletics Director Art Becker landed a top notch coach may be the understatement of the Century.  Shelby Futch, a former PGA Tour player and one of the top golf teachers in the world, has signed on to lead the SCC Golf Program.
