January 28, 2008 Men's and Women's Track

Men's and Women's Track team set new records at Glendale:

 

Saturday at Glendale both the Men's and Women's Track Team participated
in there first meet. In only the beginning of there meet season the running
Artichokes came out with an impressive showing setting numerous records.
Both the Men and Women successfully broke four individual records. On the
Ladies side Sabrina Nelson competed in the 300 meter race posting a time
of 12:53.70 breaking the previous school record. Janell Richardson successfully
reached a new record height in the pole vault at 2.55 meters making her the
all time school record holder. Janell and Kelsie Conway successfully cleared
matching heights in the high jump at 1.55 meters placing them in a tie for
the school record. Kelsie also matched a school record in the 60 meter sprint
with a time of 10.62 sec. Both Kelsie Conway and Janell Richardson will look
forward to competing in the National Tournament after posting qualifying
heights in the high jump.

The Men of Scottsdale also successfully posted four individual school records.
Carlos Lopez posted an outstanding time of 4:19.08 in the 1500 meter run
placing him on top of the school record books. Ryan Cain continued the record
setting trend Saturday when he threw the shot put 13.43 meters and the weighted
throw 12.42 meters giving him two school records. Rounding out the record
setting day was Jacob Kane who soared to new heights in the pole vault clearing
a height of 4.12 meters. Jacob was excited to set a new school record, but
unfortunately he came up just short of qualifying to Nationals. Both the
Women's and Men's track team have high hopes when they compete in the upcoming
meets.

EAM PLACES 4th AT MESA INVITATIONAL:  SCC set a school record in the team time for the course with the time of 1:30:51.90. The Artichokes defeated Dixie State College. Grand Canyon University, Phoenix College, Gateway, and Glendale. The top five finishers for SCC were Carlos Lopez (4th - 16:05, personal best), Troy Yates (22nd - 17:27), Michael Forney (27th - 18:01, personal best), 4. Brandon Dopkant (36th - 18:54), and Nate McCullough (40th - 20:11 ).

The Coaches/AlumniTeam Placed 2nd overall and killed the kids by 35 points. With a total points of 64 they just beat Mesa by 1 point but, lost to Pima by 21 points.  Their total time was 1:24:32:40.  Charlie Gomez placed 5th overall (16:06), Josh Trask was 7th (16:08), Matt Repak was 14th (16:58), John Brown was 21st (17:21) and Kenny Makit placed 26th (17:53).

SCC MEN FINISH THE SEASON WITH 7th PLACE FINISH:  The Scottsdale men's cross country team placed seventh at the NJCAA Region I Championships.  The Artichokes top finishers were Carlos Lopez (23rd with a time of 27:48) and Nate McCullough (39th with a time of 31:27), a personal record on the course.  Coach also added that this is the fastest team time at 2:36:54 at a Region meet in the last 10 years. We only had one sophomore this past season while the rest where freshmen!

2007 XC SEASON OPENS IN FLAGSTAFF: The 2007 SCC men's cross country season will open on Saturday, September 1, as the Artichokes head to Flagstaff for the George Kyte Invitational.
