Scottsdale won the fourth game of a four-game series at El Paso (TX) CC to keep from being swept in the first road series of the 2007 season for trhe Artichokes.
In the first game of the doubleheader on day two, Scottsdale's bats fell silent with runners in scoring position. The Artichokes could not help starting pitcher Scott Summers as they left six runners in scoring position in five different innings. El Paso scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning when they stole home with two outs.
Scottsdale pounded out 16 hits in the nightcap of the double header, scoring nine runs to help Jon Weaver pick up his first win of the year. Phil Ortez was 4-for-5, driving in three runs for the 'Chokes. Steve Gray had a RBI single in the sixth inning, driving in Taylor Grace to put Scottsdale ahead for good. Ortez followed Gray with a two-run triple to give the Artichokes a three-run lead. Drew Palen picked up his first save of the year by throwing two innings and striking out three Tejanos. |
