 May 31, 2007:: Women's Athletics
2006-2007 PROVES SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR LADY ARTICHOKES: During the course of the past school year, SCC's Women's Athletics teams garnered award after award both on and off the field.  Two teams earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Status while six individuals were named NJCAA Academic All Americans.  On the field of competition, 12 players were awarded All Conference honors, with six earning Athletic All American status.  Three teams participated in their respective NJCAA National Tournaments.  2006-2007 also saw one Coach of the Year award for SCC Women's Athletics.

May 3, 2007:: Women's Athletics
WINTER AND SPRING SPORTS BANQUET A HIT
Dignitaries, student-athletes, and coaches alike joined forces to create a wonderful banquet in support of our Women?s Winter and Spring Athletics.  Student-Athletes were honored for performances on and off the field, coaches related interesting tales of exciting seasons, and Art DeCabooter even offered to assistant coach the Women?s Basketball Team after his retirement!  Awards were given for our two All American Academic Team recipients ? Volleyball and Cross Country ? as well as to All Conference Women?s Golf recipients Francesca Cocchiarella, Brieanne Gregg, and Meghan Holland.  Nedra Collier received an All Conference award following her outstanding year on the Womens? Basketball team.  Athletic Trainers Tony Neighbors and Gregg Schroeder also handed out an award to outstanding student trainer Alysia Tenuta.  Dignitaries present included Dr. Art DeCabooter, Osaro Ighodaro, Amy Goff, Janet Leffler, and Fran Watkins.

March 28, 2007:: Women's Athletics
VOLLEYBALL, CROSS COUNTRY AMONGST NJCAA ACADEMIC TEAMS OF THE YEAR: The Women's Cross Country and Volleyball teams both maintained above a 3.0 GPA to earn National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Teams-of-the-Year for 2006.  Cross Country ranked sixth in the nation in GPA with a cumulative 3.42 whereas Volleyball held down a 3.22 GPA.  Cross Country athletes include Stacey Aguayo, Jenni Bledsoe, Amy Ellerman, Emily Gallagher, Cassandra Ottinger, and Morgan Thomas.  Volleyball athletes include Laura Boos, Aimee Brinkerhoff, Chelsi DeWitt, Katie Luna, Shauna Niemann, Andrea Robinson, Shea Robinson, Jasmine Smith, Sunny St. Clair, Jessica Taylor, and Kelsey Thomsen.

January 15, 2007:: Women's Basketball
COLLIER NAMED DIVISION 2 CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  After posting a double-double in a win and a loss for the week ending January 13th, Sophomore Nedra Collier garnered her first player of the week accolade.  In a 72-64 loss against Chandler-Gilbert, Collier put up 17 points and 15 rebounds.  In SCC's first win of the year over Glendale, she scored 16 points along with 18 rebounds.  Collier's rebounding efforts were good enough to place her second in the conference in average rebounds per game. 

December 7, 2006:: Women's Volleyball
KATIE LUNA GARNERS ALL-AMERICAN ACCOLADES:  Sophomore outside hitter Katie Luna received Honorable Mention All-American honors after an outstanding season at SCC.  Luna led the Artichokes to a conference and region runners-up finish and a national top ten ranking for the predominant amount of the season.  In addition, Luna received First Team All Region and First Team All Conference from Region 1 and the ACCAC.  She ranked fourth in the conference in digs per game with 4.98 and hit at a .250% clip.   

December 5, 2006:: Women's Athletics
FALL SPORTS BANQUET A SUCCESS:  Eight student athletes attained All-Conference and/or All Region awards as SCC dignitaries, Women's Athletic Department Heads, coaches, and student-athletes alike gathered to celebrate the team and individual achievements.  Dignitaries present included President Art DeCabooter, Vice President of Student Services Viginia Stahl, Dean of Student Services Yira Brimage, Vice President of Student Services Carl Couch, Vice President of Academic Affairs Dean Hermanson, and Associate Dean of Student Services Osaro Ighodaro.  Division Chair for HPERD Amy Goff, Athletic Director Darcel Coco, and Athletic Secretary Marianne McCullough rounded out the Athletic Department attendees.  Awards went to All Region and All Conference selections Hali Nye, Lindsey Cerqua, Kathryn Gosztyla, and Ashley Wise from Soccer, All Conference and All Region selections Katie Luna and Shea Robinson from volleyball as well as All Conference selections Jasmine Smith and Laura Boos.

SCC VOLLEYBALL HEAD COACH REGINA MANNIX AWARDED ACCAC COACH OF THE YEAR: For the third time in six years Head Coach Regina Mannix has been awarded the ACCAC Coach of the Year.  Mannix was also recognized for her accomplishments in 2003 and 2001.  She has produced three consecutives teams (2003-05) that have won the NJCAA Region I championship and advanced to the NJCAA Division II Women's National Championshp.  Mannix is seeking her fourth consecutive national berth as she prepares her team to compete in the NJCAA Region I championship.
