SCC's ASHBAUGH SHINES IN ALL-STAR GAME, INKS WITH MESA STATE UNIVERSITY: Scottsdale's Justin Ashbaugh completed his JuCo career by scoring 10 ponts in just 13 minutes of play in the Second Annual NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game in Kilgore, TX. The 6-5 forward then announced that he would continue his education and basketball careers at Mesa State University in Grand Junction, Colorado.
ASHBAUGH NAMED ALL-AMERICAN, TO PLAY NJCAA ONE MORE TIME: Justin Ashbaugh, a 6-5 forward, has been selected a NJCAA Third Team All-American. The Scottsdale, AZ, native will play at the NJCAA level one final time on April 21st in Kilgore, TX, after being selected to play int the Second Annual NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game.
SYKORA, MARTIN INK TO CONTINUE COLLEGIATE CAREERS: Brian Sykora and Paul Martin have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their collegiate academic and playing careers at 4-year schools. Sykora will be attending the University of Minnesota - Deluth, while Martin will attend Corban College in Salem, OR.
#2 SEED SCOTTSDALE LOSES IN OPENING ROUND OF PLAYOFFS: #5 seed Pima upset #2 seed Scottsdale 90-86 in the opening round of the 2007 NJCAA Region I Division II Tournament. Cory Humphries was unstopable for Pima as he tallied 34 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field, including an incredible 8-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc. Brian Sykora paced the Artichokes with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Justin Ashbaugh and Zeus Mora chipped in 19 points each.
ASHBAUGH, SYKORA GARNER POST SEASON HONORS: Justin Ashbaugh has been named Second Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-NJCAA Region I Division II. Brian Sykora was selected All-ACCAC Honorable Mention and also First Team NJCAA All-Region I Division II. Ashbaugh ended the season with a 17.2 points per game average and led the ACCAC with 11.7 rebounds per game. Sykora ranked fourth in the ACCAC in scoring, connecting at a 18.8 per game clip.

COCHISE DEFEATS SCC FOR FIRST TIME IN 2006-07: Cochise ended Scottsdale's season opening win streak at five games with an 88-67 ACCAC victory over the Artichokes.

SCC PREPARED FOR START OF 2006-07 SEASON: It's hard to believe, but it's that time of year again. November is here and basketball season is upon us once more. The SCC men's basketball team debuts its 2006-07 season with a home opener tonight (Nov. 1) at 7:30 pm against the Grand Canyon University JV. Coach Paul Eberhardt begins his fifth season as head coach of the Artichokes with a lot of new faces and deep talent. This year promises to be a highly competitive and exciting one for the Artichoke hoopsters.
SCC Men's Hoops Falls in Championship Game: Scottsdale battled touh before falling to top-seed Phoenix College 75-61 in the Championship game of the 2006 NJCAA Region I Division II Tournament. Ladi Makinde and Justin Ashbaugh each posted 17 points to lead Scottsdale, while Phoenix' Tyree Hardge led all scorers with 19 points.
Scottsdale Advances to NJCAA Region I Title Game: The Artichokes, seeded #3, defeated #2 seed Chandler-Gilbert 71-66 on the road to advance to the Championship game of the 2006 NJCAA Region I Division II tourney. The Artichokes will face top-seeded Phoenix College on the road Wednesday, March 8th, at 7:30 p.m. In the semifinal win over Chandler-Gilbert, Justin Ashbaugh led the Artichokes with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Jayes Tarka came off of the bench to add 17 points.
Ashbaugh Earns ACCAC, NJCAA Honors: Scottsdale's Justin Ashbaugh has been selected First Team All-NJCAA Region 1 Division II and Honorable Mention All-ACCAC. Ashbaugh ranks 13th in the ACCAC in scoring at 14.0 points per game and is fifth in rebounds at 9.0 per game.

Shelton State Captures First Annual Scottsdale Charros Holiday Tournament Championship: Shelton State College (AL) defeated Williston State College (ND) 82-76 to capture the Championship in this inaugural event. The host Artichokes scored a first round victory and placed fourth in the tourney. Shelton State's Curtis Parker was named the Tournament MVP, while Scottsdale's Steve Berrelleza was named All-Tournament Second Team. | Tournament Scores & More |
SCC Set to Host First Annual Charros Holiday Tournament: The Artichokes will host this inaugural event from December 28-30. The competing teams are Scottsdale, Snow College (UT), Monroe (NY), Williston State College (ND), Yavapai, Centralia College (WA), Shelton State College (AL), and Madison Area Tech (WI). The tournament's strength is shown in the competings teams combined 2004-2005 record of 162-93. | more |
