Coach Eberhardt returns for his sixth season as the Head Coach at Scottsdale Community College.  Last year?s team finished with a 16-15 record which ranked second among the Region I Division II teams.  The Artichokes were led by Justin Ashbaugh who was named a 3rd Team NJCAA All-American.  Justin represented the Artichokes as a member of the NJCAA National All-Star Game in Kilgore, TX.  Ashbaugh and Brian Sykora were both named 1st Team All-Region I Division II. 

 

Four players from last year?s team will continue playing basketball at the next level.  Justin Ashbaugh will be playing at Mesa State University, Brian Sykora will be playing at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Paul Martin will play at Corban College, and DD Gibbs will be playing at Bethany College in Kansas.  In the last five seasons, 28 players have transferred to four year schools to continue their career.

 

Eberhardt is entering his eighth year overall at SCC, and tenth coaching at the collegiate level.  During his coaching career he has coached fifteen All-Conference players, nine All-Region players and three All-Americans. 

 

Six players that Eberhardt has coached are currently playing professionally including Rich Melzer, Doug D?Amore, Tim Thompson, Antonio Griffin, Seth Robinson and James Fontenet.

 

Eberhardt started his coaching career in the high school ranks as the Head Junior Varsity coach for Wonewoc-Center High School in Wonewoc, WI.  After one year at Wonewoc, in which Eberhardt also coached baseball, he began a two year stint at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. 

 

A Wisconsin native, Eberhardt attended Winona State University, in Winona, MN earning a BA in History.  While at Winona State, Eberhardt served as a student assistant for the Warriors.  While coaching at UW-River Falls, he obtained certification in secondary education with a broad field social studies emphasis.  Eberhardt has completed his Masters degree in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.

 

Eberhardt and his wife Beth and their daughters Riley and Reagan reside in Gilbert.

In 1968 Coach Spezia graduated from Bismarck-Henning High School. While there, he earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, and track. In his senior year, he helped lead the Blue Devils to a regional and sectional championship; the best finish in the state tournament by a Bismarck team.

Upon graduating from high school, Coach Spezia attended DACC as a student athlete from 1968-1970. He continued his education at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a minor in History. While at Eureka, he earned three varsity letters in basketball. He served as captain his senior year and led the team in free throw percentage.

Coach Spezia got his first coaching job, after he graduated from Eureka College, in 1973 at Sheldon High School in Sheldon, Illinois. He was an assistant basketball and baseball coach for two years. From Sheldon he went to North Judson, Indiana as an assistant in basketball and baseball and freshman football coach. In his second year at North Judson, he was named the varsity basketball head coach. After two years at North Judson, he began attending Valparaiso University where he spent three years as a Graduate Assistant Coach while completing his Master's Degree in Psychology.While at Valpo he worked for Junior College Hall of Fame Coach Ken Rochlitz.

Coach Spezia made a return to Sheldon High School for two years, after his graduate work, as Athletic Director, Head Boy's Baseball, and Head Boy's Basketball Coach while teaching Jr. High Physical Education. In 1982 he accepted the position of Head Men?s Basketball Coach, College Center Supervisor, & Student Activities at Danville Area Community College. He moved to the Athletic Director position in 1989.

During the 2001-02 season, Coach Spezia took a leave of absence from DACC to become Head Coach and General Manager of the Derby Storm, a professional basketball team in the British Professional Basketball League. He returned to Danville Area Community College as Athletic Director, Head Men?s Basketball Coach, and Summer Camp Director.

His 1991 Men?s Basketball Team Won the NJCAA Division II Men?s Basketball National Tournament, the 1st Ever in the school and city of Danville history. Since then his team had finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th twice. He was National Junior College Division II Men?s Basketball Coach of the year in 1991 & 2000. While earning Region XXIV Coach of the Year 6 times & Illinois Basketball Coach Association Jr. College Coach of the Year 6 times. His 1991 team was also inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2004 Coach Spezia was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.In 2007 he was elected to the prestigious NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

In 2005 was selected into the National Association of collegiate Directors of Athletics and Central Region Athletic Director of the Year in 2004.During his tenure as Athletic Director he was able to institute over 120 athletic scholarships while bringing back baseball,soccer,volleyball,indoor & outdoor track.This with starting the first Jaguar Booster Club,advertising Banner programs & special nights. Reading programs and community speaking engagements to service organizations. He was selected to the News Gazette top 100 Sports Men of the Year. He was instrumental in helping bring the NJCAA Division II National Basketball Tourney to Danville.He has been very instrumental in helping bring the Illinois Basketball Coaches Associations Hall of Fame to Danville.

He has coached in the USA Olympic Festival in 1994 with current NBA Executive Stu Jackson, conducted basketball clinics all across the Midwest, while also conducting Clinics in Antigua, Barbuda, Trinidad, England, St.Kitts and Italy. He also took  all star and tour teams into those countries.
 Currently he is the Vice President of the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association, Assistant Region XXIV Men?s Director, and setting on the numerous national committees. He is proud of helping out 100 student/athletes to further their educations on scholarships.He has over 20 former players or assitants that are in the coaching profession. Nine of which are head or assistant coaches at the collegiate level.

Coach Spezia has done numerous speaking engagements Highlighted by Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with over 700 in attendance, started reading programs at schools, while speaking at numerous DACC programs. He has had over 10,000 campers that have attended summer camps at DACC or across the Midwest.He developed and started the first summer camp programs at DACC and one of the first Sports Announcer & Media Camps.

His family has had 11 Bismarck Henning graduates to include siblings, nieces and nephews. He is married to Nancy and has one daughter Rachel in Boston, two step-daughters, Angela and Somer, along with 5 grandchildren.

    DANNY McCALL

 Danny McCall enters her first season as Assistant Coach for the men?s basketball program after a successful two-year career at Westark Junior College and then two more years at The University of Arkansas Little Rock.

McCall duties include recruiting, scouting, player development and on the floor coaching.

At Westark Junior College, McCall was a two-year captain and lead his team to a 33-3 record and was ranked 5th in the nation. McCall also was a two year letterman and made 2nd Team All-Conference honors. At Arkansas Little Rock, McCall was a two-year Captain and help lead his team to a 36-22 record and second in the Sunbelt Conference.

At North Pulaski High School, McCall senior year he average 20.2 points and 11.0 rebounds a game. McCall also was named 1st team all Arkansas and won the Nationals in AAU summer league in 1999-2000.

McCall played professionally in Iceland and Bahrain

McCall has good knowledge of the game and will have a big impact on the players and the program this season.
