Investing in Student Success
Student success and academic excellence is our top priority. As part of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation “Campaign for Student Success,” SCC is seeking investment in three specific initiatives to support and enhance innovation, academic excellence and student success:
STeAM: The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics initiative focuses on high-demand and high value careers, leverages our instructional talent and builds upon important community/employer partnerships. The Arts focus recognizes that many under-represented students often find their voice and thus their confidence through initial exploration of the fine and applied arts.
ISI: The Indigenous Scholars Institute reflects our aim to better serve our growing Native American student population, and respecting our “place” on SRPMIC tribal land, to encourage all students to understand, know about and appreciate the history, contributions and future of our Indigenous peoples.
ACT: The Adults in Career Transition Scholarship is designed to benefit nontraditional students, such as those who have postponed or avoided higher education for financial, societal or a host of other personal reasons. Some initially bypass college to seek full time employment within a career field, perhaps to later return for a certificate or degree once established and ready for the challenge.
A Growing Need for Student Support
Many students attending Scottsdale Community College do so on a limited budget.
Many others are unable to attend due to financial hardship.
- Only 46% of financial aid applicants receive aid
- Nearly 90% of financial aid received is from loans
- Millions of dollars of need goes unmet each year
