Information for Cyclists

Bicycle Parking at SCC

  • Park only in places where bike racks are located.
  • Bikes should only be locked to bike racks. Do not use trees, poles, railings, fences, signs, etc.
  • Bikes may not be parked in buildings.
  • Illegally parked bikes create problems and inconvenience for people, damage property, and generally constitute a hazard.  They may be removed by College Safety if safety risk is great.

Securing Your Bicycle

Here's how:

  • Always lock your bike, even if you're leaving it for "just a minute". The majority of stolen bicycles have been left unlocked or locked only to themselves
  • Whenever possible, always lock your bike to a fixed, but legal, device such as a bike rack.
  • Lock your bike in a highly visible, well-lighted location.
  • U-shaped high security locks are among the most theft-resistant locks available. A 6-foot cable or chain (the thicker the better) used with a U-lock allows you to lock to any rack or pod available and secure your wheels as well. Be aware that any cable is easily cut. Don't entrust your bicycle to a cable alone.
  • Quick-release wheels and seats can be secured with a cable, chain, or other security devices available at bike shops.

If, in spite of all these precautions, your bike is stolen, be sure to contact College Safety (north east corner of LB bldg.) at 480-423-6175. They will coordinate with the Salt River Police.

Document Your Bicycle's Serial Number

Be sure to record your bicycle's serial number and retain a copy of your sales receipt to provide proof of ownership in case your bike is stolen. Having these items will help in the recovery of your bicycle.

Some information was obtained from the Transportation and Parking Services at the University of California at Davis.
