After the AGEC, the next milestone towards university transfer is to complete an associates degree.
An associates degree requires 60 to 64 credits for completion. Transfer pathway associates degrees contain an AGEC and will transfer to a specific major or groups of majors at a university. To select the proper course for an associates degree it is important to know the major you are working towards. The Associates in Art Degree is very broad and must be tailored to match your transfer intent.
Completion of an associates degree guarantees your admission to the state universities, but not to a particular department or major. Since these degrees are designed for transfer, all credits that may be used in the degree will transfer to all three state universities. Not every course SCC offers may be used in the degree. In a later section you will learn how to find out if a class transfers and can be used in an associates degree.
The associates degrees above , except the ABUS, have two additional requirements which may be shared with the AGEC; Oral Communication and Critical Reading.
Of the degrees above two, the AA and AS, are very flexible and may be tailored to many majors at the state universities. This is a real benefit to students who need flexibility but it also means that students are responsible for selection courses that match their transfer intent.
