If you watch out for these common problems you can make sure you transfer smoothly.
Waiting too long to choose a major. The longer you wait the more likely you will not have the proper courses for the major you choose.
Avoiding classes you don't like or only taking ones you do. Plan a mix of classes so that you are not left with a bunch of difficult classes to get through.
Not keeping track of your own plan and progress. You are responsible for knowing what to take and the decisions you make. Keep all of your education plans handy and refer to your written plan when you talk to an advisor.
Registering late. Students who register late often end up with their third or fourth choice for a class. That's not a good way to make sure your classes are interesting and meet your requirements. Register as early as possible each semester.
Relying on friends for advisement. Your friends may have the best intentions but they will not know all the details of what the best plan for you is. What works for them most likeley will not work for you. Work with an advisor and get your plan down in writing.
Not applying to the university on time. You should apply up to 10 months before you plan to start. If you apply late you may miss deadlines or missout on classes and financial aid opportunities.
