The AGEC has 11 requirements that must be fulfilled. Each area is explained below.
First Year Composition (FYC) 6 credits ENG101 and ENG102 (or ENG107 and ENG108 if English is not your first language) are needed to satisfy this area.
Literacy and Critical Inquiry (L) 3 credits You will have a choice of courses which emphasize critical thinking and analytical skills. ENG101 is a prerequisite for courses that satisfy this requirement. CRE101, Critical and Evaluative Reading, meets this requirement and the reading requirement.
Mathematical Studies (MA) 3 credits The course you should take to satisfy the (MA) requirement is dependent on your major. College Mathematics, Calculus or Brief Calculus are examples of courses that may satisfy this requirement. You should know the math requirement of your intended major or consult with an advisor before taking any Mathematics above Intermediate Algebra (MAT122). Remember that the MA requirements are different for the AGEC-A, AGEC-B and AGEC-S.
Computers and Statistics( CS) 3 credits You will have a choice of courses to satisfy this requirement. Some majors, such as business, psychology or computers, will require a specific course in this area.
Humanities and Fine Arts (HU) 6 credits Humanities are the study of the manmade arts such as art, literacy, music, dance, theatre and other subjects that convey the cultural aspects of humanity.
Social and Behavioral Sciences (SB) 6 credits The Social and Behavioral Sciences area provides scientific methods of inquiry and empirical knowledge about human behavior, both within society and within individuals. The forms of study may be cultural, economic, geographic, historical, linguistic, political, psychological, or social.
Natural Science (SQ) and (SG) 8 credits You will need two courses with their corresponding labs. At least one course must be an (SQ) An (SQ) course is a substantial introduction to a fundamental area of science. An (SG) course may survey a scientific area or focus on a narrower area of a discipline. The AGEC-S has specific science requirements as explained on the prior page.
Awareness Areas (C) and (H) or (G) You will need a cultural awareness course (C) and a historical (H) or global awareness (G). Many courses have more than one value so these may be shared with other AGEC areas.
