The Advisement Center works with you to develop a plan to attain your educational and life goals. Advisors help you reevaluate your plans and check your progress in this ongoing process.
It is essential that you be an active participant in planning your education because the ultimate responsibility for making decisions about life goals and educational plans rests with you. The academic advisor assists by helping you identify and assess the alternatives and the consequences.
Advisors are also a resource for accurate information on institutional policies, procedures, and resources and assist students in making use of them .

Who Are the Advisors?
Advisors are faculty and professional staff working both in the Advisement Center and in other student service offices. Advisors have been trained in advising methods and receive updated training each year.
Some advisors are specialists in certain programs. When scheduling a visit ask if there is a specialist available for your area of interest.
How to Prepare for Your Visit
All new students are encouraged to take placement tests for Math, English and Reading in the Testing Center (480-423-6433) prior to an advisement visit. Test results and any transcripts or grade reports of prior coursework along with any information from past advisement sessions should be brought to advisement every visit. Study your degree requirements in the General Catalog, become familiar with the class schedule and, if possible, make a list of courses you wish to take. The advisor will assist you in the formation of your educational plan.
Why Advisement is Important
If you want to reach your goal you need a plan. Advisors help you create a plan and stay on track to graduation. You should schedule one or two visits with and advisor every semester.
