Transfer to a University

Many students attend SCC to complete general studies courses and then transfer to a state university. SCC has made transferring a fairly simple process because we have established transfer partnerships with a number of institutions. For additional information please visit our University Partner List

Often students don't know that there is a definition for general studies called the AGEC; Arizona General Education Curriculum.

The AGEC is a 35 credit hour academic certificate designed to transfer to all the public universities in Arizona. When the AGEC is completed, and indicated on your transcript, it transfers as a block; every credit used in the AGEC will definitely transfer. You will not have to worry that a class will be rejected. Also, completion of the AGEC guarantees your general admission to any of the public state universities.

Specific colleges or majors may have additional requirements for admission. For example architecture and graphic design students must submit a portfolio to be admitted to the College of Design at ASU.

AGEC Transfer Requirements

You must request that the AGEC certificate be posted on your transcript prior to sending your transcript to a university; it is not automatically granted. If you need to apply to a university while you are finishing your last semester of AGEC courses "AGEC in Progress" may be placed on your transcript by the Admissions and Records Office. It is important that you request this before your transcript is sent so that you receive the benefits of having the AGEC completed.

There are three different types of AGEC based on your transfer intent:

* AGEC-A is the most general and is for students who are pursuing a major which matches the AGEC-A or are undecided about their major but know they want to transfer.
* AGEC-B is for students who are planning to major in business or computer information systems.
* AGEC-S is for science and some engineering majors.
