English as a Second Language

Scottsdale Community College is dedicated to
helping you learn English.

SCC offers a full-time English as a Second Language (ESL) program which prepares students for success in regular academic degree programs. Free tutoring and English Conversation classes are also available. New students take a placement exam upon arrival to SCC to test into the appropriate English level. You may study as much as three to five hours per day by taking a block of four classes. The classes are sixteen weeks long and prepare you for the next academic level. You will study the following skills in all four blocks:

• Reading
• Writing
• Grammar
• Listening/Speaking
• Language Laboratory
• Computer Skills
• Accent Reduction

Financial Aid

Various financial aid programs may be able to assist you in paying all or part of the costs at Scottsdale Community College. There are also programs that assist students in buying books. Scholarships are also available for those who qualify. The Student Services Office has information and will assist you.
